Which template should you choose?

  • Applying through a company's careers site or a big job portal: pick an ATS-friendly, single-column template.
  • Sending your resume directly to a recruiter or founder: a modern template with a sidebar stands out more.
  • Early in your career: one page, with projects before experience if you have little work history.
  • Many years of experience: two pages is fine; keep the most recent and relevant work first.

Make it yours

Change the accent colour and the fonts, choose A4 or US Letter, and pick one or two pages; the text size and spacing adjust so the page is full, not half-empty. Download any version as a PDF or a Word file.

What every good resume template has

  • Your name and contact details at the top, where both people and systems look first.
  • Clear section headings in plain words.
  • Enough white space to scan in a few seconds, without half the page left empty.
  • Dates lined up on one side so gaps and progression are easy to read.
  • Fonts that print and display well, at a readable size.

Resume format by country

  • India: one or two pages, reverse-chronological, no photo needed for most private companies; campus and government roles may ask for more personal details.
  • United States and Canada: one page early in your career, US Letter paper, no photo, date of birth or marital status.
  • United Kingdom and Ireland: usually two pages, A4, no photo, and often called a CV.
  • Germany: a Lebenslauf is often expected, commonly with a photo, date of birth and a table-like layout.
  • Gulf countries: two to three pages is common, often with nationality and visa status.

How long should a resume be?

One page if you're a student, a recent graduate, or have under about five years of experience. Two pages when you have more relevant experience than one page can show well. Longer than two pages is rarely read in full, outside academic CVs.

The harder rule is to fill the page you choose. A resume that stops halfway down looks thin, and one that spills three lines onto a second page looks careless. OneProfile sets the text size and spacing so your resume fills exactly one or two pages.

Should a resume have a photo?

In India, the US, the UK and Canada, leave the photo out unless the employer asks: it takes space and can invite bias. In Germany and some other European and Gulf countries a photo is still common. When a photo is expected, OneProfile's Touch up tool lets you add one to the finished PDF.
